Among CDR‘s products for the industrial sector and the chemical industry, centrifugal pumps for the pharmaceutical sector represent our company’s main production.
The pharmaceutical sector, with its production of agrochemicals, cosmetics, plant protection products and active ingredients, requires specific applications and materials that prevent any leakage and contamination of the liquid inside. The characteristics of pharmaceutical systems allow the installation and use of a wide range of centrifugal pumps, both horizontal and vertical.
centrifugal pumps for the pharmaceutical sector: ideal for both clean liquids and those containing solids
The type and concentration of the liquid to be handled is a decisive factor in the installation of centrifugal pumps for the pharmaceutical sector. As fluids containing small solid particles and clean fluids have different requirements, they must therefore be handled with different products to avoid damaging the pump and the system.
Clean fluids
If the liquids being handled are clean, meaning they do not contain particles of material, this means that they are suitable for pump installations with a closed impeller.
The DTN range of lined magnetic drive horizontal centrifugal pumps (DTN ISO and DTN ASME) are perfect for the pharmaceutical sector, since their new dynamic shaft design ensures greater pump reliability and lower axial thrust along the entire performance curve. The UTN range (UTN-L base-mounted and UTN-BL close-coupled execution) also guarantees zero-emission safety and is ideal for mainly clean fluids.
Alternatively, the UTS is a steel magnetic drive pump, and is one of CDR’s best-selling centrifugal pumps for the pharmaceutical sector. With the option of customisation both in terms of energy saving and performance and safety, it is available in both bare shaft and monobloc versions.
Liquids containing solids
In most cases, liquids containing particles of solid material require the installation of a single or double mechanical seal centrifugal pump.
With a maximum head of 75m and a flow rate of 250m3/h, the CCL mechanical seal pump features polypropylene-coated wetted parts and is perfect for installation in environments that require high resistance to contamination and leakage.
In the same family of mechanical seal pumps, the CDR catalogue also features the UCL, a single-stage process pump coated in various materials, including polypropylene, polyvinyl fluoride and perfluoroalkoxy, ideal for pumping corrosive, aggressive and hazardous liquids (slightly contaminated, clean, and low viscosity).
The X Series: CDR’s new range of magnetic drive pumps
Every year, CDR Pompe invests time and resources in our Research and Development department to ensure innovation, quality, safety and diversified solutions for our customers around the world. At the request of a major pharmaceutical company, our team has developed and produced the new X Series magnetic drive pump.
The X Series includes several different types of pumps:
- the XTN, a plastic-lined magnetic drive pump, ideal for liquids with a high concentration of solids and with a maximum allowable working temperature of 160°;
- the XTS, a steel magnetic drive pump, ideal for handling toxic, flammable and hazardous liquids, guarantees maximum resistance to corrosion and maximum safety in terms of fluid containment in the event of any breakage.
Both these pumps comply with ATEX regulations (ATEX Zone 1 internal and external).
The special feature of these pumps consists of diamond-coated silicon carbide bushings and the fully redesigned open impeller and internal hydraulics: this allows the correct passage of fluids containing solids and a continuous exchange of pumped liquid between the shell and the volute.
centrifugal pumps for the pharmaceutical sector: a revolution with the X Series
This pump has revolutionised the pharmaceutical sector, an area traditionally reliant on mechanical seal pumps, often subject to wear and with high maintenance costs as a result. The X Series has marked a turning point thanks to the introduction of magnetic drive technology, which completely eliminates the risk of fluid leakage, increases the safety of the systems and drastically reduces the need for maintenance.
The reliability of the X Series is particularly appreciated in the critical processes of pharmaceutical production, where it is essential to guarantee sterile, constant and contamination-free working conditions. A compact design, total absence of mechanical seals subject to wear, and ease of cleaning make these pumps ideal for environments subject to strict quality controls. In addition, durability and the reduction of plant downtime contribute to optimising production efficiency and reducing operating costs.
The CDR Pompe X Series is the result of a constant commitment to research and innovation, synonymous with Made in Italy quality. Visit our website or contact us to find out how we can support the needs of your system with tailor-made solutions.
